Pianist Janet Smith received a B.M. with honors from Oberlin Conservatory and an M.S. from the Juilliard School, both degrees in piano performance. Primary teachers included Adele Marcus, Wilbur Price, Emil Danenberg, William Masselos, and Aiko Onishi. Ms. Smith has performed on both coasts and on television and radio as a piano soloist. She has also played numerous 2-piano and duet recitals, appeared as collaborative pianist with many string and wind instrumentalists, performed in chamber music recitals, and as a choral accompanist.
As a teacher she has served on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory, West Valley College, and DeAnza College. Her private piano studio in the Bay Area produced outstanding students, many of whom won state-wide competitions. A frequent adjudicator in state-wide and local competitions, she has also given numerous seminars and master classes for teachers. As a member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, she served for many years as local branch officer and on the state-wide Certificate of Merit Council.
